NOT WORKING FOR BEND

This website is published by the Hawthorne Avenue Neighbors--

a coalition of business owners and residents calling for better transit planning in Bend.

Our collective action can fix the broken Bend transit system.

ACTION #1:

DONATE TO THE FIX BEND TRANSIT PAC

Join other transit supporters to make transit issues a key focus of the upcoming election cycle. This PAC will work hard to keep equity in transportation at the forefront of every local race.

ACTION #2: TESTIFY AT THE BEND CITY COUNCIL'S TRANSPORTATION PUBLIC HEARING AT 7 P.M. AUGUST 19- DETAILS WILL BE POSTED HERE

Call in to this important hearing and tell the Bend City Council you think the Bend Transportation System Plan and the CET 2040 Transit Master Plan are getting it wrong on Bend transit. Remind the Council that Oregon state law requires that cities take responsibility for the planning of ALL modes. Currently the City is expecting to spend less than 1.5 percent on transit projects out of $655 million in transportation projects over the next 20 years. If you believe vulnerable residents are being left behind in this transportation planning cycle--tell the Council you want them to do something about it. If you think Hawthorne Station is unsafe and that Bend needs a real transit station--tell the Council your story.

ACTION #3:

PUT UP A LAWN SIGN

Encourage others to see this website by putting up a lawn sign.

Text your address to 541-420-8603 and say "Bring me a lawn sign!"

One will be placed in your yard for you.

Or visit 3rd Street Beverages across from Hawthorne Station

and pick up a sign.

ACTION #4:

WRITE TO THE CET TRANSIT BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Cascades East Transit board of directors (also called Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council board) plans to adopt the CET 2040 Transit Master Plan at its meetings on September 3. Click the link above and send them an email to board members telling them a viable facilities plan must be outlined in the document in order for transit in Bend to grow. Until it includes a real facilities plan, the document should not be adopted.

ACTION #5:

VOTE YOUR VALUES IN NOVEMBER

If you believe that current elected leaders aren't doing enough to ensure a well-planned and funded transit system in Bend, it's time to elect new leaders who will. Check back here for more information on races that matter this November.

The Hawthorne Avenue Neighbors is a coalition of neighbors, business owners and transit advocates. The group began as a collection of community members frustrated by the safety and traffic issues at Hawthorne Station, which was originally selected 10 years ago as an interim transit hub.

Over the past two years, the group has been heavily engaged in the transit planning process--paying much closer attention that most to the lack of resources devoted to transit and transit planning.

Now the group is encouraging others who care about equity in transportation, a well-planned city and climate change to take action to demand better transit planning--and transit facilities--in our rapidly growing city.
